A precious ring gifted to Lacharyn by his mentor, Awyrail. A mysterious trinket Awyrail seemed to believe harbored the Serendraig's magic in some respect. Following Awyrail's extended leave, Lacharyn took it upon himself to investigate the ring's power and origins.
Thrupend's Clerigwyr Aramie suggested the ring was a darnseren—a star piece—crystallized from the Draig's tears. Such an item carries tremendous sentimental value.
A roundabout gift from the leader of the Caberty Coves, Brand. After a sufficient amount of meddling resulting in the return of a fellow Cove, Merry and Lacharyn impressed—or impressed something upon—Brand. "Tall boy," he clarified to the pair.
Lacharyn learned in short order that this rose is no exception to the well-known saying. Thorns sprout from the eternal blooms, tearing through enemy and wielder all the same. His blood stains the fuller like any other's.
A strange gauntlet Lacharyn received in Thalassian's realm. It bears a strong resemblance in both form and function to that of a chain devil's. Something tells him the gauntlet has a long and storied history—no doubt a relic from a grand adventure. Even without knowing the origin of the item, he is quite fond of keeping people in smiting range and readily equipped it.
A copy of Ways of the Order of the Maes Seren that has acquired a truly unique table of contents.
Although the party initially found the book underneath Caberty's abandoned Archer Estate, it remained in Alun's possession until Bramblehollow on account of being magically bound. Merry eventually dispelled the enchantment and worked with Alun to mend what pages they could.
The book rapidly became both one of Lacharyn's most precious possessions and an item that fills him with abject dread. That Awyrail deteriorated over the course of his time with Mother is clear. That Awyrail still possesses some of his sentiment and sanity is also clear, and all the more horrific for it.
Lacharyn has taken to writing his own responses to Awyrail's remarks in the diary. He has included an extensive admonishment on Awyrail's continued inability to measure ingredients.
Presented to Lacharyn on the docks of Thrupend by an eccentric pink tiefling and a small gnomish girl. He reluctantly attended the Muses' performance that day, with no thanks to Merry's attempts to flatter him. Lacharyn barely remembers this crumpled paper in his pack. He may realize in the far future what value it holds.
A small, shining rock possessed of the Draig's power, not unlike Awyrail's ring. Lacharyn is not entirely sure what the purpose of the darnseren is, but he's certain they're holy objects. In his role as a Paladin of the Maes Seren, he considers it his duty to collect and safeguard them.
A seemingly harmless rainbow-colored potion. This tiny flask is actually a chromunculus, and regards you as such. Lacharyn originally found the chromunculus in an abandoned apartment in Thrupend, but would only come to appreciate Chrom when he proved indispensable for traversing Conrad Cornelius' realm of enchanted brass. He may be small in stature, but he contains multitudes—and also expels multitudes.
Lacharyn became quite fond of Chrom after his valiant efforts in Conrad's realm and now carries him attached to his belt. He likely causes more trouble than anything, but Lacharyn perceives him as a small friend doing his best. Whether this affection is reciprocated in the least is unsubstantiated, as the chromunculus is a construct and regards you as such.
- Despite being six years past his coming-of-age ceremony and more than qualified to take a name, Lacharyn refused. He made the case that he liked his birth name. At the time, Gwyntglean immediately folded his arms and knew the boy couldn't bear to take a name he wasn't confident in.
- Lacharyn's coloration and appearance has been well-received by his community. Cilg and Gwynt are inordinately happy with what they perceive as the colors of the night sky on their son. Lacharyn has heard, more than once, that his features are proof of the Draig's blessing.
As faith is wont to do, Lacharyn found meaning and belonging in service to the Draig. Like his father, he has no particular distaste for the humble farmer's life. Unlike his father, he possesses no particular love or talent for work of the harvest. Even as a boy, Lacharyn took more interest in religious ceremonies than many of the older Serenmade around him.
Known to meander through the fields on his errands, and less known to marvel in those fields at the Draig's blessings. Wildflowers swaying in the winds on Ilysiau'r Draig's hills could inspire an unmatched serenity in him, tangled with spiritual awe and, at times, a feeling of connection with the Serendraig themself.
He is most at peace—and perhaps only at peace—when he feels the presence of the Draig, imagined or otherwise.
Despite an exceptionally loving family, a warm community, and a doting mentor, the Draig's unseen omnipresence hangs over Lacharyn like the Sword of Damocles. Contrary to expectations, this sword hangs ever more precariously for Lacharyn's preternatural affinity with the Draig. As is the case with many gifted, he perceives much received praise as undue: he simply 'did what felt right' or 'followed directions.'
Drawn to the Draig and to Awyrail, one of whom speaks in silence and the other in little but teasing praise, he feels more than a little aimless. A boy perpetually trying to prove himself with no concept of the standards to reach. Largely, he remains convinced whatever he's done is not good enough and he can do better.
As Is The Case with many gifted, this cognitive distortion means he struggles to acknowledge success and is deeply wounded by failure, perpetuating a sense of inadequacy.
Nonetheless, where Lacharyn perceives nothing but mediocrity, others have known him to be a shining—sometimes literally—example of a Serenmade in service to the Draig. For whatever cost to his self-esteem, he remains hardworking and nearly single-minded in his devotion.
Besides his preternatural affinity with the Draig, Lacharyn is a competent farmhand. Not nearly as practiced as his parents, but of a sturdy stature and a genial spirit to help with the family trade where he's able.
As Gwynt tends to work from dawn to dusk without meaning to and Cilg often exhausts himself with, among other things, making sure his husband doesn't work himself to death, Lacharyn found he likes cooking for them a surprising amount. He is likewise somewhat known in the cloister for being one of the paladins capable of cooking food worth eating.
As per monastic tradition, he is highly literate.
Lacharyn did not leave Ilysiau'r Draig to find Awyrail. If he says this enough times, it will become true. It would be more embarrassing to admit that, for lack of a body and a funeral rite, he chases a ghost.
In more practical matters, Lacharyn set out for Thrupend prioritizing the mystery behind the ring he received from Awyrail. He made an unconvincing case to his Knight-Commander about the benefits of having eyes to the south and discovering latent powers in Draig-related artifacts. His Knight-Commander gave him a very sympathetic smile and leave to journey. Far from the only one waiting for Lacharyn to spread his wings and take some initiative, the Ilysiau'r Draig Knight-Commander is nonetheless distraught about the circumstances. He keeps a polite and distanced interest in Lacharyn's well-being.
